Since I have traveled to England five times, to Mexico and all over the US, I consider myself a pretty good traveler. But, this is my first time to Indonesia! My first flight is 15 hours and my connecting flight is another 5 hours; add in the crazy time difference and I feel like a travel novice! After some research I think I am prepared to get through the next 24 hours …
- I loaded my Kindle with 3 new books and my iPod with 2 new audiobooks. I also have my netbook in case writing inspiration hits me mid-flight.
- I will try to get some sleep, so I have my favorite pashmina that doubles as a blanket, my neck pillow and The Slumber Mask which includes ear plugs. I also packed some Melatonin to get my system acclimated to the time zone and over the jet lag. (I don’t sleep well the first couple of nights in a new place so packed some sleeping pills too.)
- After sleeping on a plane it is important to rehydrate my skin, so I have body and face lotion, eye drops and lip gloss in my carry on. I also have my toothbush and toothpaste, and a hair brush to help me freshen up.
- Traveling to a new country can be hard on your digestive system, so I was advised to drink a probiotic a few hours before my flight. Then when I arrive my first meal will be a miso soup.

water..water…water..drink lots of water and sleep as you can.
I can understand about the stomach problem. Thou, I’m an Indonesian native but hadn’t been back to the country for 7 years. I had a bit problem after the second day I was in Indonesia. But I kept fighting with eating whatever I really craved and the problem went away.
Tips for long distance traveler: try to go sleep on the plane as the time of the country that we are going to visit to reduce the jet lag.
