Summer means swimming every day, all day to Princess D. She wants to get into the pool right after lunch and won’t get out until the sun sets. We call her a fish, but she immediately reminds us that she is a mermaid. Her hands and feet are already showing the signs of a typical swimmer. Even with Coppertone Water Babies Pure & Simple my little girl has an awesome tan. And summer is only half way over!
Yesterday she was playing with her Lolo’s snorkel gear in the pool. It was a bit big for her, but she loved being able to just keep her face in the water and still breath. This morning I heard my mom talking to Princess D in the kitchen about if she loved snorkeling in the pool so much she might love scuba diving. At first I smiled and thought about how much fun that would be. Then “Mommy Bear” kicked in and I thought “What?! Um scuba diving, NO! Too dangerous. She could DIE!”

Then I staggered in horrified shock realizing I actually thought something my mom had said to me when I once wanted to learn how to scuba dive. When did I become my mom? My instant (over)reaction was to protect my kid who is only 7 years old and not about to get her scuba diving certification any time soon! I have a lifetime of worry ahead of me. Someone, please pour me a glass of wine!

I’m having these kinds of moments a lot lately. They’re growing up so fast, aren’t they?
