San Diego is filled with so many great restaurants and I have been lucky enough to try a few of them. From the Gaslamp to North County, upscale to family friendly, surf n’ turf to vegetarian … there is a restaurant with exactly what you are craving and I hope my reviews help you find your new favorite restaurant!
Crust
I love pizza and Crust in Carlsbad serves up some of the best pizzas!
The owners, Matt (a former San Antonio Spurs player) and his beautiful wife Kimia have created a perfect upscale, neighborhood pizzeria. Pizza chef, Charlie Meola (who was the chef at the pizza place he used to eat at while he attended University of Arizona) created handcrafted, artisan and New York style pizzas all named after women he used to date!
During a girls night out at Crust we sampled five different pizzas (the Karla, the Kelly, the Ana, the Gayle and the Yana) which were all delicious and unique. We also enjoyed Charlie’s Famous Meatballs, the fried calamari, and (my favorite) the beet salad. For dessert we indulged on the Road Rash … the ultimate bignet!
I enjoyed Crust so much I took my cousin there for dinner a couple of weeks later!
A couple of highlights … Happy Hour is from 3:00pm – 6:00pm Tuesdays through Saturdays and ALL DAY on Monday, and on Wednesdays WINE IS HALF OFF!
Follow Crust on Twitter and Facebook to find out when the “Name That Pizza” contest starts and maybe you will win a pizza party for 8 people!

Gabardine
Brian Malarkey (you might recognize him as one of finalist on Bravo’s Top Chef Miami) is the executive chef and partner of the “Fabric of Social Dining” family restaurants in San Diego: Searsucker, Burlap, Gingham, Gabardine and Herringbone. His fourth resturant,Gabardine, is located down the street from his home in Point Loma. It has the feel of a neighborhood restaurant offering an amazing menu of comfort food featuring local produce and seafood. You might even see Brian getting dirty in the kitchen cooking up new dishes!
A couple of weeks ago I joined a group of local bloggers to taste Gabardine’s new brunch menu. We started with mimosas and warm almond sticky buns, followed by a refreshing watermelon and goat cheese salad. The restaurant’s decor is clean and fresh, with a “Nantucket in the summer” vibe. The gorgeous San Diego beach weather added to the atmosphere while I chatted with my friends over lobster and chorizo scrambled eggs, shrimp n’ grits, and steak n’ eggs. Our meal was completed with the Almond Joy Brownie for dessert.
I want to go back to Gabardine for dinner sometime because the menu looks amazing and nothing is over $30! So head over to Point Loma and GAB at the BAR and DINE!

Both of these restaurants offer wonderful children’s menus, so feel free to enjoy a family dinner out!
Special thanks to Crust and Gabardine for treating me to amazing meals. All statements are my opinion and my opinion only. I did not receive any other form of compensation.
