Yoga is such an important part of my life, so it is only natural that my daughter wants to learn her downward dogs from her cobras. She has taken a few kids yoga classes and will soon start going to the kids yoga class at the same studio I go to, but I want to keep encouraging her to play around with yoga at home. My dear friend Katy introduced Kids Yoga Stories to me.

Kids Yoga Stories

The author, Giselle Shardlow, has created colorful and adventurous books are perfect for 4 to 8 year old kids.

I started writing these yoga-inspired stories after completing Yoga Teacher Training in 2005. Learning about the ancient yoga principles transformed my life on and off the mat. For me, yoga is about being human and living in happiness, health, and harmony. With such a deep message, it made me wonder how to share this with children. At the time, I was in my 8th year as an International Primary School Teacher. My teaching background combined with my yoga training inspired me to write my own stories integrating movement, fun, and meaningful topics. It was my way of giving the great message of yoga to children while embracing my enormous passion for children’s literature.

My plan is to publish more Kids Yoga Stories books incorporating six child-characters from six different continents (three girls and three boys). Sophia is the first of the Kids Yoga Stories characters and appears in Sophia’s Jungle Adventure. She is American and travels to Costa Rica to experience a jungle adventure with her family, tying in yoga poses along the way. All the poses are laid out at the end of the book so children and parents/teachers can act them out together! There is also a matching Sophia’s Jungle Adventure Coloring Book.

At 7 years old my daughter is already a seasoned traveler, so she loves that the character Sophia is on a trip to a new country. She loves following along with the different yoga poses Sophia does throughout the story. Even I have fun doing them with her!

Want to turn your kid(s) into a teeny yogi too? Now is your chance! I am giving away a copy of Sophia’s Jungle Adventure storybook (retail price of $15.95).
