I considered not writing my weekly SYTYCD post tonight because I am still recovering from my weekend at the D23 Expo, but seeing the contestants dance with the All-Stars inspired me to write. What an amazing show! Every performance was flawless and elevated to a whole new level. I was blown away by every performance!
I was also blown away by who was cut tonight. My predictions from last week were completely wrong. I can understand that the judges have their favorites, but after tonight’s performances I really think Mackenzie deserved to stay.
What do you think about who was cut?
As I mentioned before, the dancing tonight was incredible and inspiring. These contestants had only a week to learn a routine and connect with their All-Star partner. I saw solid relationships in performance tonight. The technical level was through the roof!
All-Star Partner: Brandon, Season 5
Choreographer: Dorian Sanchez
Holy crap! That last lift into a drop … HOLY CRAP! The routine was fun and fantastic. I loved the beginning and the slow down in the middle of the routine. Gave great highs and lows to the performance. That was amazing trust between these two dancers. She looked like she was having a great time and looked fantastic dancing this style.
All-Star Partner: Kathryn, Season 6
Choreographer: Stacey Tookey
Stunning! He was incredibly strong and looked like there was absolutely no way he would ever let her fall. I loved seeing how she trusted him totally. There was a complete partnership between the two of them and a passion that was completely believable. *sigh* Loved this performance!
All-Star Partner: Melanie, Season 8
Choreographer: Mandy Moore
Gotta admit, I got chills watching this routine! Damn they looked great together. That opening was so strong and sexy. This is the best routine I have seen from this choreographer. I loved the attitude and slinkiness during this entire performance. I was worried he wouldn’t be able to hold his own next to “The Beast,” but he looked great along side of her!
All-Star Partner: Whitney, Season 9
Choreographer: Jean Marc Genereux
Style: Cha Cha
He looked great in his own style and it was fantastic seeing him performing it. He was there for her completely the entire routine. It was a smoking hot performance!
All-Star Partner: Twitch, Season 4
Choreographer: Christopher Scott
Style: Hip Hop
I didn’t really see the point of the storyline, but the dancing was great! It seemed like a simple routine, but when you look at the complexity of the intricate movements you realize that it is not easy to synchronize. I agree with Debbie Allen that he is so good that you can’t help watch him. She did a nice job dancing with such a dynamic and talented dancer. Not sure if this routine will stand out for her though.
All-Star Partner: Neil, Season 3
Choreographer: Mandy Moore
It felt like such an intimate moment between these two with the candles all over the stage. She looked light as a feather in his arms. For a second time tonight this choreographer has surprised me. It was a lovely routine and danced so well. You really would never know that she is a ballroom dancer with how well she adapts to a style.
All-Star Partner: Marco, Season 8
Choreographer: Ray Leeper
I think she out danced him! I love watching her on stage. She has so much soul and um … LEGS! She looked flawless and energetic.
All-Star Partner: Jacob, Season 6
Choreographer: Spencer Liff
What a great routine! I loved the spotlight on her in the beginning with her red dress. Then when he came sliding into the light. That just set the tone for the entire routine. That first leg extension was perfection along with the ones after that. That lift and flip roll over his shoulders … WHAT?! The connection was completely believable. That routine was TOO DAMN HOT!
All-Star Partner: Comfort, Season 4
Choreographer: Tabitha and Napoleon D’umo
Style: Hip Hop
There was something about this character that worked for him! I really expected him to blow this routine, but he was down and hard hitting. I really enjoyed this routine. It was quirky and fun!
All-Star Partner: Robert, Season 7
Choreographer: Travis Wall
That was a technically superb routine! There were a few steps that were not synchronized, but did it matter? Not really! It was beautiful choreography danced beautifully. These two men put all of their heart into this performance. It was heartbreaking!
My favorite routine of the night: Broadway routine with Mackenzie and Jacob
Who did I vote for: all of them!
My prediction of who is going home: Hayley and Nico
