I have been eating at Islands since they first opened in LA in 1982. They have delicious burgers and fries! The restaurant’s Hawaiian beach decor and surf videos on the TVs make it a fun restaurant to take friends who are visiting from out of town to give them that So Cal beach vibe. And, the family friendly atmosphere is perfect when you are dining with lots of kids.
My attempt at a more yogic diet (think lots of veggies and no red meat) has really limited my intake of burgers and fries. So, you can imagine how happy I was when Islands offered to host me and my family for dinner to try some of the new items on their menu!
While my dad is all about the burgers, for non-meat/non-red meat eaters you can request to substitute on any of their burgers a turkey or veggie patty for no extra charge. The turkey patty is made with ground turkey, applesauce, seasonings, bell peppers, celery & scallions. I got it on the Hula Burger (photo above) and it was very delicious!
If I am not getting a burger I will order the North Shore Tacos. The spicy chicken and side of ranchero beans are so yummy. Now on the Paradise’s Bikini Beach menu I can get the same tacos with corn tortillas instead of flour bringing the dish down 130 calories! There is also veggie tacos, a turkey burger and Greek salad on the low calorie menu.
The salads and soups are all very yummy, but my mom LOVES the Tortilla Soup! We even took an extra order of this soup home for her to have for lunch the next day.
Also, Islands does offer gluten free options!
What I really like about the kids meal options at Islands (and so does Princess D) is that with any kids entree she has a choice of veggie dippers, steamed broccoli or carrots, Caesar or garden salad. Since my daughter really likes vegetables she loves having all those options to choose from (including the Spinach & Artichoke Dip from the appetizer).
Spring Break is right around the corner, so to help you get ready I am giving away a $100 gift card, beach towels and a BBQ set from Islands Restaurant!
You can find 50 Islands Restaurants throughout Southern California; Arizona; Summerlin, NV; and Sacramento. For more information about Islands restaurants check out their website, like them on Facebook or follow them on Twitter and Instagram.
